Board and initial setup A board of 8x8 cells is placed between partners so that there is a dark corner field to the left of the player. In the starting position, each player has 12 checkers, located in the first three rows on black cells. Rules for moves and captures The first move is made by red checkers. “Simple” checkers can move diagonally one square forward and only hit forward. The queen can move one square diagonally forward or backward; when capturing, she moves only through one square in any direction, and not to any diagonal field, as in Russian or international checkers. Capturing the opponent's checker is mandatory. With several capture options, the player chooses the capture option at his own discretion, and in the selected option it is necessary to hit all the checkers available for capture. Upon reaching the last (eighth from oneself) horizontal row, a simple checker turns into a king. If the simple reaches the last row during the capture, then it turns into a king and stops, even if it is possible to continue the capture. Checkers notation Designation of fields in English checkers Only black fields are numbered from left to right and from top to bottom, starting from the upper left corner. The initial position and the final position are written with a hyphen, the multiplication sign means taking.
